SELECTION: FUR ELISE

Fur Elise, also know as Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor, was written by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1810. It has become one of his best known piano pieces. The German title simply means “For Elise”.

Some confusion remains regarding who Elise was. What makes it more puzzling is that he wrote the piece the same year he proposed to Therese Malfatti. While there are multiple theories floating around, the most recent research shows that she may have been a piano student of Therese.
