Improve Your Playing by Building from the Foundation First

In my previous post, I talked about the mistake that musicians often make when learning to play an instrument. What is it? They fail to start from the beginning. Scales are the foundation of music and failing to learn them only complicates and warps your viewpoint of music as time goes on. If you missed that post, you can read it by clicking here.

Let’s talk some more about scales.

Last time, I mentioned a few different kinds of scales and I said that major scales are the most important. Their interval pattern is Whole, Whole, Half, Whole, Whole, Whole, Half.  We looked at the C major scale and the F major scale. There are 12 major scales in all.

I’m not going to talk about all 12. Here are a few more that you can explore and learn. They are the G major scale and the Bb major scale.
